Type Locality and Naming

The type section is located at Nanshan Mt., 15 km northeast of Hetaoshan (Mt.), Nenjiang County, Heilongjiang. It was named by Tong Zhifang et al. in 1970, and formally cited in Regional Geology of Heilongjiang Province in 1989.


Lithology and Thickness

Volcanics. A suite of intermediate-acid volcanic eruptive rocks, dominated by intermediate lava intercalated with intermediate-acid and acid tuff and tuffaceous siltstone in the lower part, and dominated by rhyolitic brecciated tuffaceous lava intercalated with tuffs in the upper part. Its thickness is over 2171 m.

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

Uncertain: The Bottom is incompletely exposed, and relations with underlying strata are unclear. Next older regional unit is the Xinghuo Fm.

Upper contact

Uncertain: The Top is incompletely exposed, and relations with overlying strata are unclear.

Regional extent

Distributed at places such as Shiwuliwan, Ershiwuliwan and Maihai Township of Nenjaing County; Baoshenshan, Qingfengshan and Jinshan (mountains) of Dedu County.
